In the late morning hours of a Saturday in Fairfield, Alabama, events unfolded that would end the life of Paul Justin Stanley. The 35-year-old man was at the Budgetel Inn on Kelco Place on September 28, 2024, when he was fatally shot. Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the hotel at approximately 11:21 a.m. following a report of a person having been shot.
Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers were confronted with a tense situation.
A suspect had barricaded himself inside one of the hotel rooms. A standoff ensued, but it was resolved peacefully when the 28-year-old man inside the room surrendered to the deputies without further incident.
Once the suspect was in custody, deputies discovered Mr. Stanley, who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the response, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead just before 12:00 p.m. The Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner's Office later identified the victim. The unnamed suspect was arrested by the sheriff's office in connection with the deadly shooting.
