On January 6, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a vehicle crash in the 800 block of Beacon Drive in Fairfield, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered a Jeep Cherokee that had collided with a residence. Inside the vehicle, the driver, identified as 26-year-old Kenneth Dewayne Smith Jr. from Pell City, was found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
