On May 6, 2021, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a convenience store located at the intersection of Milstead Road and Woodward Road in Fairfield, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Desi Montell Carter of Stockbridge, Georgia, deceased inside a gray Dodge Charger that had rolled into the back of a Ford Explorer near the gas pumps. Carter had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
