On New Year's Day 2024, in Anniston, Alabama, a verbal dispute escalated into a fatal act of violence that claimed the life of 21-year-old Kasmine L. McAfee. An African American woman, Kasmine was on her property in the 2700 block of Simpson Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. when a man, who was unknown to her, walked onto her property and an argument ensued. The altercation took a tragic turn when the man shot Kasmine once before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called, and she was transported to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The Anniston Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide. Through their inquiries, investigators were able to identify a suspect, 35-year-old Jarvis Donquisse Swink, also a resident of Anniston. A warrant for his arrest on the charge of murder was subsequently issued. On the evening of January 4, 2024, investigators located Swink in Anniston and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Calhoun County Jail and booked on one count of intentional murder, where he is being held without bond.
The investigation into Kasmine McAfee's death is ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to contact the Anniston Police Department's Investigative Division. Kasmine was remembered by her family as a devoted daughter and a loving mother to her son, Kymani Brown. She is also survived by her fiancé, Jayden Brown, her mother, and several siblings. Described as a beautiful soul, she was known for being charismatic, funny, and humble.
