On January 1, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Anniston Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 2700 block of Simpson Street. Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Kasmine L. McAfee suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigations revealed that McAfee had been involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown male who had approached her property.
