On April 4, 2023, 47-year-old Warren Eugene Allen Jr. of Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally shot during an assault in Midfield. The incident occurred around 10:26 p.m. in the 1000 block of 12th Street. Responding to reports of an assault, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies arrived to find Allen deceased inside a vehicle. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:01 p.m.
