On July 2, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., 19-year-old Jason Anthony Swain Jr. was fatally shot at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Scrooge Alley in Sylacauga, Alabama. Upon arrival, officers found Swain with a gunshot wound to the chest; despite bystanders' efforts, he was pronounced dead at Coosa Valley Medical Center.
