On the evening of May 31, 2023, the life of 24-year-old Quindell Javon Rhodes, a Black male from Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded around 9:18 p.m. in the 500 block of Tupelo Way in Center Point, where Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Rhodes with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Rhodes was quickly transported to UAB Hospital for medical attention, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify 23-year-old Carlos Dion Harper as the suspect.
Harper was subsequently arrested and is facing a charge of capital murder in connection with Rhodes' death. In addition to the murder charge, Harper was also charged with second-degree assault for allegedly striking another individual, Quintez Lamar Rhodes, with a pistol during the same incident. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation by detectives.
