On the evening of February 27, 2021, a dispute at the A&A Convenience Store on Center Point Parkway in Center Point, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 30-year-old DeAndre Antone Carter. The male victim was involved in an altercation that escalated to gunfire, leaving him with a severe gunshot wound. Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 10 p.m. to find Carter wounded.
Despite the immediate efforts of emergency responders to provide life-saving measures, Carter was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, 33-year-old Wallderrick Pierce Carson, also a resident of Center Point. It was believed that Carson fled the scene in a white vehicle following the incident. However, in a significant turn of events, Carson voluntarily turned himself in to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office the day after the shooting. Following an interview with detectives, he was arrested and charged with the murder of DeAndre Antone Carter. Carson was subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail with a bond set at $50,000.

The charge was later reduced to provocation manslaughter, a lesser offense that suggests the killing may have occurred in the heat of passion or under extreme emotional disturbance.
