On September 6, 2022, at approximately 11:55 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment in the 1400 block of 17th Street North in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon arrival, they encountered a person of interest, who was taken into custody without incident. Inside the apartment, officers discovered 31-year-old Birmingham resident Corye Daniels lying unresponsive; he was pronounced deceased by Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel.
