On November 6, 2022, 21-year-old Kendall Jarrod Thornton Jr. was fatally shot while driving near the intersection of Highway 79 and Cleage Drive in Jefferson County, Alabama. Around 9:30 p.m., Thornton's blue Kia Forte was struck by gunfire, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
