In the early morning hours of Christmas Eve in 2021, a beloved father and engineer, Shaun Benjamin Rhudy, was tragically killed. The 42-year-old man was working at the entrance of Marty's PM on Birmingham's Southside when the fatal incident unfolded.

The series of events began when Alonzo Johnson II was denied entry into the establishment due to a prior incident. Following the refusal, a physical altercation involving Johnson took place in a parking lot situated across the street from the bar. During this confrontation, gunfire erupted. Rhudy, who was at the entrance of the bar, was struck by the gunfire. Another man in the parking lot was also hit and critically injured. Both men were rushed to UAB Hospital, where Rhudy was later pronounced dead.

Following the shooting, Johnson fled the scene. He was aided by Terrill Huey Jr., who drove him away from the area. However, law enforcement officials were able to quickly apprehend both individuals.

Alonzo Johnson II, who was 24 years old at the time, was charged in connection with the shooting. He ultimately pleaded guilty to the murder of Shaun Rhudy and the attempted murder of the second victim. As a result of his plea, Johnson was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Terrill Huey Jr., who was 30, pleaded guilty to a charge of hindering prosecution for his role in driving Johnson away from the crime scene. He received a two-year suspended sentence.
