On the evening of May 23, 2022, 50-year-old David Westbrook Jr., a respected research scientist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. After walking his dog at a nearby soccer field, Westbrook returned to his vehicle parked at 135 54th Street North.
