On December 21, 2021, at approximately 7:45 p.m., 29-year-old Jequaris Jerryll McCann was fatally shot during an attempted vehicle theft at the Marathon gas station located at 2121 19th Street Ensley in Birmingham, Alabama. According to the Birmingham Police Department, McCann was at the gas station when several suspects entered his unoccupied vehicle, intending to steal it.
