In the early morning hours of November 7, 2021, a dispute inside the GMV Club in Birmingham's Ensley neighborhood tragically escalated, leaving 35-year-old Jeremy Managan, a Black male, fatally wounded. Birmingham Police Department officers were dispatched to the club at 1710 Avenue D around 1:39 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
A fourth victim, who had also been shot at the
club, had already been transported to UAB Hospital by private vehicle. All four victims, including Managan, were taken to the hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Jeremy Managan succumbed to his injuries. The other three victims sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigations into the shooting determined that an altercation that began inside the nightclub spiraled into gunfire. The subsequent police investigation led to the identification and arrest of two suspects in connection with the deadly shooting. Tavarus Barnes, 37, of Marietta, Georgia, and Tyran Lee Walker, 26, of Birmingham, were taken into custody.
Both Barnes and Walker were charged with murder and assault for their alleged roles in the incident. Following their arrests, they were held in the Jefferson County Jail, each on a bond of $75,000. They have since been released on bond pending further legal proceedings. The Birmingham Police Department has continued to appeal to the public for any additional information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
