Kenneth Glavin Adams Jr., a 49-year-old Black man from the Fairfield area, was caught in a sudden burst of violence late on the night of April 8, 2021, while driving his tan 2015 Honda Accord along Valley Road near Fairfield Boulevard and Rutledge Drive in west Jefferson County, near the Midfield and Fairfield area. Deputies were sent to the scene after reports of a person shot and found him still inside the car, wounded multiple times, the vehicle stopped in the roadway as though whatever happened had unfolded in an instant and left no chance to escape. Early reports listed his age as 50, but the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified him as 49. He was rushed to UAB Hospital, where he fought his injuries for roughly two days before dying on April 10, 2021.
What emerged from the investigation painted the picture of a roadway shooting rather than a crash or a random medical emergency. Investigators said Adams had been traveling east when someone in another vehicle fired multiple rounds into his car. The attack appeared to come fast and from outside the vehicle, turning an ordinary drive into a fatal ambush. Authorities publicly asked for help from anyone who might have seen something on Valley Road that night, especially because the scene offered so little in the way of immediate answers.
As for arrests and suspects, the case appears to have remained painfully unresolved in the public record. Investigators and Crime Stoppers later stated there were no suspects or witnesses identified at that stage, and the case was still being presented as an unsolved homicide with a reward offered for information leading to the charge and arrest of a suspect. I did not find reliable online reporting showing an arrest, named suspect, indictment, trial, or conviction in Adams’s killing. The story that remains is one of a man found gravely wounded behind the wheel, a family left waiting for answers, and a case that, at least in the sources available online, still had not reached the point of public accountability.
