In Bessemer, Alabama, on September 8, 2021, 76-year-old Alverner Blanks was assaulted in his home during a dispute over money with his neighbor, 24-year-old Monyuett Catrice Hinson. The altercation escalated when Hinson struck Blanks in the head with a space heater, leaving him unresponsive. A neighbor discovered Blanks and called 911, leading to his hospitalization.
