In the tragic incident on May 1, 2020, 11-year-old Troy Ellis was fatally shot during a turkey hunting trip in Jefferson County, Alabama. The hunt, organized for veterans by America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors, involved Troy, his father Obed Ellis, a local high school coach, and Joshua Stewart Burks, a Marine veteran and former teacher.
