On September 6, 2019, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Shelby County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence incident on Gibson Road, just outside Columbiana, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 45-year-old Johnny Lee Payne of Shelby deceased at the scene. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office identified Payne as the victim and initiated a homicide investigation.
