On the evening of December 13, 2023, tragedy struck in Birmingham, Alabama, when 25-year-old Keithan Parker, a Black male from Pinson, was killed in a targeted shooting. The incident, which also claimed the life of 19-year-old Kayla Hall of Hanceville and left another woman with life-threatening injuries, unfolded in the area known as 'The Norwood Bottoms.'
The Birmingham Police Department's investigation determined that all three victims were shot in the 1700 block of 32nd Place North. Following the attack, the surviving female victim managed to drive them in a white Ford Focus, riddled with bullet holes, to a Chevron gas station on 12th Avenue North to seek help. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the gas station to find Parker and Hall inside the vehicle, both having sustained apparent gunshot wounds. They were pronounced deceased at the scene. The third victim was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment of her serious injuries.
Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide, and the case remains unsolved. Law enforcement officials have expressed their belief that there are witnesses who have not yet come forward and have urged the community to provide any information that could lead to an arrest. The families of both Keithan Parker and Kayla Hall have made public pleas for justice and for anyone with knowledge of the shooting to speak out. A reward, which was increased to $10,000 after Parker's family contributed to the fund, is being offered for information that leads to the solving of the case. The lack of closure has left the victims' families in a state of prolonged grief as they continue to hope for a breakthrough in the investigation.
