Willie Lee, a 30-year-old African-American man, was fatally shot on the evening of Friday, April 30, 2010, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The shooting occurred around 7:22 p.m. in the 1000 block of North 18th Street. Another individual, a 34-year-old man, was also injured in the incident but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Neither of the victims were affiliated with Marquette University, which is located near the scene of the crime.
Responding to the sound of six to
eight gunshots, officers from the Marquette University Department of Public Safety were the first to arrive at the scene. They attempted to revive Lee, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing suspects fleeing on foot immediately after the shooting. A car at the location had its two front windows shot out.
As of May 2010, the Milwaukee Police Department had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. By the end of that year, the case of Willie J. Lee was listed among the city's unsolved homicides. The investigation into his death remains open, and authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward.
