On a Thanksgiving morning that should have been filled with warmth and family, a tragedy unfolded in Milwaukee, forever altering the lives of those involved. Inside an apartment near 24th and Wells, 17-year-old Al-Jevon Wilkins, an African-American male, was asleep on a futon with his girlfriend. The sense of peace was shattered when the young woman awoke to a horrifying scene: her ex-boyfriend, 18-year-old Elijah Dent, was standing over them.
The unlocked apartment door had provided easy access for Dent, who was armed and driven by motives that would soon become devastatingly clear. In an act of shocking violence, Dent fired two shots at close range into Wilkins' head, ending the teenager's life as he slept. The girlfriend, now a witness to a brutal murder, was then confronted by Dent, who pointed the gun at her with what she described as a "crazy look on his face."
As the terrified young woman dialed 911, a chilling exchange was captured in the background of the call. A male voice, believed to be Dent's, was heard saying, "you don't have to tell nobody I did that."
