In the winter of 1966, the quiet community of Chesapeake, Virginia, was shaken by the discovery of a young man's brutal death. On December 16th, the body of 17-year-old John Lee Pope was found in a field in the 1800 block of Wellington Avenue, an area located in the South Norfolk section of the city. The male victim, a resident of nearby Norfolk and a sophomore at Booker T. Washington High School, had been violently beaten and stabbed.
