A man is found shot to death near his van On a Tuesday afternoon, October 25, 1988, the life of 46-year-old Emory Eli Carroll, a white male, was abruptly ended in the parking lot of the Chesapeake House on the Bay condominiums on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. Around 5:00 p.m., the sound of several gunshots echoed through the area, drawing the attention of law enforcement. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr. Carroll's body lying next to his blue 1975 Ford van.
The investigation revealed that Mr.
Carroll had been shot multiple times in the head. In his hand, he still clutched his car keys, a poignant detail in the sudden and violent end to his life. Emergency rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. His body was then taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy confirmed the cause of death and the manner was officially ruled a homicide.
