In the summer of 2007, a bright Tuesday afternoon in Nashville, Tennessee, turned tragic for 26-year-old Derrick Leon Handy. On June 5th, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the sounds of gunfire echoed through the alley between 8th Avenue North and Delta Avenue. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr. Handy, a Black male, lying in the grass, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of Derrick Leon Handy revealed a sinister plot. Detectives determined that the shooting was the result of a robbery that had been orchestrated against him. During the course of their investigation, three Black male suspects were identified as having set up the fatal robbery.
Despite the identification of the three individuals believed to be responsible for the death of Derrick Leon Handy, the case has since gone cold.
