In a quiet West Nashville apartment, a tragedy unfolded that cut short a life that had barely begun. A three-month-old baby boy, on his very first day at an in-home daycare, was found deceased. The little one had been placed in the care of Anne Jordan, who operated the unlicensed daycare out of her apartment on Old Hickory Boulevard.
The baby's mother, along with another parent, made the heartbreaking discovery on the afternoon of April 10, 2023. Finding the apartment door unlocked, they entered to find the infant cold to the touch in Jordan's bed. At the time of this grim discovery, six other children, all under the age of 16 months, were also present in the apartment, having been left unattended.
In the immediate aftermath, the daycare operator, Anne Jordan, was nowhere to be found. She was later discovered by hikers in Harpeth River State Park with what appeared to be self-inflicted lacerations on her arms. Authorities reported that Jordan had attempted CPR on the infant after finding him unconscious in a bassinet, but fled the scene after her efforts were unsuccessful.
An initial examination of the infant at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital revealed no obvious signs of trauma or medical issues. Anne Jordan was subsequently arrested and faced multiple charges, including six counts of child neglect. The investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the baby boy's death remained ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges pending the results of an autopsy.
