In the early morning hours of Friday, June 16, 2017, the life of 53-year-old Alvester Merriweather came to a violent and tragic end in Nashville, Tennessee. His body was discovered by passers-by shortly before 8 a.m., lying in a parking lot at 5 Lafayette Street. The scene told a grim story; Merriweather had been severely beaten, and an autopsy later confirmed that he died from multiple blunt force injuries.

Merriweather, who was experiencing homelessness, was last seen alive between 2 and 3 a.m. that same morning. It is believed the fatal assault occurred sometime within the hours that followed, between 2:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. At the time of his death, Merriweather was known to work for a temporary agency that was also based on Lafayette Street, not far from where his body was found.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the case of Alvester Merriweather's murder has grown cold. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in connection with his death. The investigation remains open, and the Nashville Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information from the public that might lead to a breakthrough in the case and bring justice for Merriweather.
