A 65 year old father is stabbed at a boat landing in Columbia, SC On a warm summer evening in Columbia, South Carolina, 65-year-old Jack Robinson, a Caucasian male and retired Air Force veteran, drove his car to the Rosewood Boat Landing on August 17, 1996. Witnesses later reported seeing him there around 6:00 p.m., engaged in a conversation with another man. The two men, who appeared to know each other, walked together into a wooded area near the boat landing.
Shortly after, the encounter took a violent turn.
Witnesses overheard the two men arguing, reportedly about money, before Jack stumbled out of the woods, bleeding and calling for help. He had been stabbed multiple times. The man he was with fled the scene. Emergency services were called, and Jack was rushed to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he died later that evening.
Investigators were able to get a description of the man seen with Jack from witnesses. He was described as a Hispanic male, between 25 and 35 years old at the time, approximately 5'5' to 5'10' tall, weighing between 150 and 180 pounds, with black hair and a mustache. A composite sketch of the suspect was created and released to the public.
In the years following the murder, the case grew cold. At one point, investigators believed they had a suspect and an arrest was made in connection with Jack's death. This individual was also a suspect in a separate double homicide. However, due to a lack of physical evidence directly linking him to Jack's murder, the charges were ultimately not pursued, and he was later cleared of any involvement in Jack's case. To this day, the murder of Jack Robinson remains unsolved, and his killer has never been brought to justice. His daughter continues to advocate for her father, hoping that one day new information will emerge to solve the case.
