In the early morning hours of August 27, 2010, a violent exchange of gunfire between the occupants of two cars shattered the pre-dawn quiet of a Pittsburgh neighborhood. Caught in the crossfire was 51-year-old Robert James, a Black male from the nearby community of Wilkinsburg. The tragic events unfolded around 3:30 a.m. in the 7100 block of Upland Street in Homewood, where James was struck by bullets to the head and torso while inside one of the vehicles.
