On a November evening in 2016, a man was found with a fatal gunshot wound outside a Philadelphia apartment complex. The male victim was identified as Brian Keith Jones. An autopsy would later reveal that a contact gunshot wound to his left shoulder was the cause of death, a wound so severe that it would have ended his life within one to two minutes.
Investigators learned that earlier in the evening, a member of the Breed Motorcycle Gang named Charles L.
Kulow, who went by the nickname 'Ruthless,' had been in an apartment at the complex. It was established that Kulow had asked an acquaintance to invite Jones over so that he could 'talk to him.' What that conversation entailed remains unclear, but it ended in the violent death of Brian Keith Jones.
Multiple eyewitnesses provided testimony that proved crucial in the investigation. They stated that they heard Kulow admit to shooting Jones. Following the gunshot, Kulow was seen standing near Jones's body. He, along with another unidentified man, then proceeded to drag Jones's body down a flight of stairs and out of the building. The two men were captured on surveillance video, which corroborated the witness accounts, showing them arriving together and later moving the body behind a trashcan before walking away.
The investigation led to the arrest of Charles L. Kulow. He was subsequently charged in the death of Brian Keith Jones. During his trial, a jury found him guilty of third-degree murder, two firearms violations, and possession of an instrument of crime. For his role in the killing, Kulow was sentenced to an aggregate of 17 to 34 years in prison.
