In the late hours of a Friday night in East Germantown, tragedy struck 51-year-old Byron Johnson. On June 19, 2020, Johnson was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his head, lying in the doorway of a property on the 5500 block of Bloyd Street. Police responded to the scene just after 11 p.m. and pronounced him dead.
This was not the first time violence had found Johnson. Just two months prior, he had been shot in the left shoulder at the very same location on April 5th. The shooting in June, however, proved to be fatal. Johnson, a resident of West Oak Lane, became another victim of gun violence in the city.
As of the reports immediately following the incident, no arrests had been made in connection with Byron Johnson's death. The investigation into his killing was ongoing, leaving a community searching for answers and a family grappling with a violent loss.
