On July 20, 2016, Owen Joyner, a 22-year-old man from Philadelphia, was shot and killed in the early morning hours. At approximately 2:00 a.m., police officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 4200 block of Viola Street, where they found Owen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. Medical personnel arrived quickly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Owen lived in the same area where the shooting took place.
