In the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 6, 2016, the life of 22-year-old William Bumpess was tragically cut short. At approximately 1:00 a.m., Philadelphia Police officers were called to the 1400 block of Wingohocken Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered William Bumpess, a Black male, suffering from several gunshot wounds.
The responding officers quickly took action, placing him in their patrol vehicle and rushing him to Temple University Hospital. Despite their efforts and the medical attention he received, William Bumpess succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead that morning. At the time of his death, Bumpess resided on the 6200 block of Wheeler Street in Philadelphia.
As of now, the case remains an unsolved murder. The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the death of William Bumpess. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing closure to his family.
