Caucasian / White Joshua Brewer, age 18, spent the late summer night of August 9, 1997 standing with friends at the southeast corner of SE Milwaukie Avenue and Powell Boulevard in Portland, Oregon. Around 10:24 p.m., a group of unidentified Asian men pulled up. Words sharpened into a confrontation, the kind that gathers heat by the second.
