Zaire Washington, a 24-year-old resident of Oakland, California, was shot and killed on June 30, 2008, in what turned out to be one of a series of fatal shootings in the city during the summer of that year. Washington was killed near 82nd Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, and his death was part of a broader wave of violence attributed to gang-related activities in the area.
