On March 8, 2007, Patricia Peck, a 62-year-old business owner from Clayton, Ohio, was tragically found dead in the backseat of her SUV at the Dayton Airport Inn, located on Terminal Drive in Dayton, Ohio. Patricia had been missing since February 25, 2007, after she failed to show up for work at the hair salon she co-owned. Her body, covered with blankets and a towel, showed signs of blunt force trauma to the face and torso, and a plastic bag had been wrapped around her face.
The coroner later confirmed that she had died from strangulation, adding to the brutal nature of the crime.
In 2023, investigators revisited the case with new forensic evidence, and DNA from an unknown male was found on the pants and socks Patricia was wearing at the time of her death. This led to a breakthrough in the case, resulting in the indictment of her son, Jeffrey Trent Young. Young, who had been a suspect early in the investigation, was arrested in 2024 after new DNA analysis linked him to the crime. According to the police affidavit, Young had previously told investigators that Patricia had only dropped him off at his apartment on February 24, 2007, but later admitted that she had actually gone inside his apartment that night. Jeffrey Young, now 59 years old, is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail, facing charges of murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence.
Retired Dayton Police Homicide Detective Doyle Burke, who worked on the original investigation, described the crime as likely driven by a personal motive, pointing to the signs of violence and the use of the plastic bag. Close friends and family have expressed their hope for justice, with law enforcement and media attention recently reviving the community's interest in the case.
