On the evening of May 30, 2009, 18-year-old Stephen E. Cormier was shot and killed in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego, California. The incident occurred when officers responded to reports of gunshots on the 4300 block of 40th Street around 10:45 p.m. When police arrived, they found Stephen Cormier suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and despite the efforts of paramedics to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 11 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that prior to the shooting, Cormier had been at a residence on the 4300 block of 39th Street when a Latino male, described as wearing a black wrestling mask and dark clothing, approached the door. Cormier went outside and walked with this masked individual down the street, eventually ending up in a cul-de-sac at the south end of 40th Street. It was there that the situation escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect drew a handgun and shot Cormier multiple times.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled to a white Ford Explorer parked nearby, which was driven by another Latino male, described as being in his mid-20s, with short hair and wearing a dark blue San Diego Chargers jersey. The vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Meade Avenue. Despite an ongoing investigation and appeals for public help through Crime Stoppers, no arrests have been made in connection with the crime, and the case remains unsolved. Authorities continue to seek information that might help identify the suspect or driver involved in the murder of Stephen Cormier.
