Cory Blackwell, a 25-year-old resident of Warren, Ohio, was tragically killed on January 1, 2013, at the Sunset Lounge, located on East Market Street. The incident occurred just after a New Year's Eve celebration at the venue, where Cory was shot multiple times at around 2:11 a.m. Police found him unresponsive near the crowded dance floor and later transported him to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The coroner ruled his death a homicide, and police have since continued to investigate the case.
Witnesses reported that an argument broke out inside the club, which quickly escalated, leading to gunfire. The Sunset Lounge was crowded at the time, but despite the presence of many people, there was a lack of cooperation, and no one initially came forward to identify the suspect. Additionally, there were reports of other incidents related to the shooting. Another individual, Danee Williams, was grazed by a bullet while standing outside the bar as shots were fired recklessly from a passing car.
