Yousef Mohamed, 32, died of blunt force injuries on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, in the 1800 block of North Wolfe Street in East Baltimore. The Baltimore Police Department investigated, and the Baltimore Sun's homicide database lists his death as a homicide.
Patrol officers from the Eastern District were called at about 9:08 that Tuesday morning to the rear of the 1800 block of North Wolfe Street for a report of an unresponsive man.
They found Mohamed with signs of trauma to his body, and medics pronounced him dead at the scene. Police gave his age as 34 in their first reports, while the Sun's database lists him as 32. Police released little else about what happened to him.
His sister, Ahlam Mohamed, started a fundraiser to buy a tombstone for his grave. "On Tuesday, January 17th, my brother, Yousef, had his life stolen from him senselessly and violently," she wrote. She asked for help "for the sake of his family, children, and friends," which shows that he left children behind. She described a warm and restless man. "Yousef was the type of person to light up a room with his smile and energy. You couldn't be around him without smiling or laughing," she wrote. "Yousef was so kind hearted, gentle, caring, and loving. He always was selfless, spirited, optimistic, and wise. Yousef would always bring the sunshine to the storm. He had a voice you wouldn't forget." She added that he loved drawing and "could never be in one place, he was always spontaneous."
"Our family, his kids, and friends are suffering a heavy loss and are trying to push through irreparable damage," she wrote, ending with a prayer and a request that visitors "please say a prayer for my brother." Dozens of people donated. His name was later read among the city's victims of violence in community memorials and prayer lists.
The record does not say whether he was attacked behind the block or brought there, whether he knew the person who hurt him, or what led to the attack. An independent online list of Baltimore homicides noted that the location was near surveillance cameras, but no images or suspects have been made public.
The Baltimore Sun placed the block in East Baltimore's Broadway East neighborhood, a rowhouse community north of the Johns Hopkins medical campus where longtime residents have worked for years to hold their blocks together.
Homicides in Baltimore began falling steeply in 2023 and 2024, reaching the lowest totals in decades, yet many killings from those years remain unsolved.
No arrest, criminal charge or court case connected to the death of Yousef Mohamed could be found in news archives or public records. More than three years later, there is no public sign that anyone has been held responsible. Someone who was near the rear of the 1800 block of North Wolfe Street on the night of January 16 or the morning of January 17, 2023, or who saw Mohamed in his last hours, may know something that matters. Even a small detail, such as a name overheard, a vehicle seen nearby or a conversation remembered, can help detectives move a case forward.
