Brandon Keith Howell, a man remembered by loved ones for his big heart and devotion to his family, was born on January 17, 1985, in Duncan, Oklahoma. The 41-year-old male was known to do anything for the people he cared about. After graduating from Duncan High School in 2003, Brandon built a career as a maintenance technician and also did appraisal work. In 2018, he married his wife, Susan, and lovingly welcomed her daughter, Kiana, as his own.
He cherished his role as "Papa" to his three grandchildren and as an uncle to his two nieces. Brandon was an avid fan of UFC fights, enjoyed playing golf and fishing, and had a special passion for rescuing animals in need, sharing a close bond with his dog, Rebel.
The quiet of a Friday evening in a northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood was broken by violence on October 16, 2026. At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of Indian Creek Boulevard, near NW 122nd Street and May Avenue, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Brandon Howell at the home, deceased from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the police investigation, the fatal incident began when Brandon approached a home and pounded on the front door. A male resident of the house, who was unknown to Brandon, opened the door. An altercation then broke out between the two men, which ultimately resulted in the resident shooting Brandon. Investigators and police have stated that it is not clear what motivated Brandon to go to that specific residence or to bang on the door. The residents of the home reported that they did not know him.
The man who shot Brandon remained at the scene and was cooperative with homicide detectives who arrived to investigate. He was taken in for an interview and was subsequently released. No arrest was made in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. The death was recorded as the 47th homicide in Oklahoma City for 2026. The neighborhood where the shooting took place is a residential area composed of homes and townhomes in the far northwest part of the city.
The Oklahoma City Police Department is handling the ongoing investigation. As is standard procedure for all homicide cases, the department announced that its findings will be presented to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office. The district attorney will then have the final say on whether criminal charges are warranted in the case. By late October 2026, no decision on charges had been announced.
Brandon was survived by his wife, Susan; his daughter, Kiana; three grandchildren, Audrey, Chloe, and River; his parents; two brothers; and two nieces, along with many other relatives and friends. His family remembered him for the treasured memories they created together. A visitation for family and friends was held on Friday, October 23, followed by a funeral service the next day at the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel. He was laid to rest in the Foster Cemetery.
The case remains under review by the authorities. Police have asked that anyone with information regarding the incident call the Homicide Tip-Line at (405) 297-1200.
