Tre Almonté Foster, a 33-year-old man from Athens, Georgia, was killed in a shooting just after midnight on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Born on May 28, 1993, his life was cut short in an act of violence that led to a swift arrest. While his family and friends mourned his sudden loss, few public details emerged about the man they knew and loved. His online obituary noted that he "touched many lives and will be remembered fondly for the moments shared and the memories created."

The fatal encounter occurred in the parking lot of the Clarke Gardens apartment complex in east Athens. At approximately 12:06 a.m., officers from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a report of a man shot in the 150 block of Thumpa Avenue. According to police reports, Tre had been involved in a fight with another man. The altercation escalated, and the other man allegedly shot Tre three times in the back. When officers arrived, they found him lying face down but still breathing. They administered emergency first aid until an ambulance arrived to transport him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The location of the shooting carries a heavy history. Thumpa Avenue was named in memory of Auriel “Thumpa” Callaway, a 24-year-old pregnant woman who was killed by a stray bullet during a fight at the same apartment complex in July 2019. In the investigation that followed Callaway's death, Tre Foster was arrested in March 2020 and later charged with reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for allegedly firing a gun into the air during the 2019 altercation. His own violent death on the street named for another victim of gun violence was a grim echo of the area's troubled past.

The investigation into Tre’s murder was handled by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. Almost immediately, investigators identified a suspect: Kendrick Jahiem Faust, 24, of Athens. The department issued a public lookout for Faust and, through Crime Stoppers, offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information that could lead to his capture. The search did not last long.

Later that same day, with assistance from the Safe Streets Task Force and the collaborative efforts of the Spalding and Lamar County Sheriff’s Offices and the Barnesville Police Department, Kendrick Faust was located in Spalding County and taken into custody. He was arrested and charged with malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Faust was booked into the Clarke County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

Following Tre's death, his family arranged for services through the Gardenview Funeral Chapel in Athens. A visitation was scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, followed by a funeral service and burial the next day at East Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Authorities have not released a potential motive for the shooting or elaborated on the nature of the dispute that preceded it.

As of October 2026, the investigation was considered ongoing by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact Detective Paul Johnson at 762-400-7060 or via email. Anonymous tips could also be submitted to the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 706-705-4775. The case against Kendrick Faust is pending in the Georgia court system.
