On April 17, 2017, at approximately 1:56 a.m., Columbus police responded to a shooting at 840 Wedgewood Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle parked in the street, with multiple individuals injured in and around it. Omar Abdulkadir Ali, age 25, was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m. after emergency medical services attempted to provide aid.
Two other individuals were also found outside the vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds and were rushed to Mt. Carmel West Hospital in critical condition.
The shooting incident that claimed the life of Omar Ali was part of a particularly violent period in Columbus. This homicide was the 37th in the city for 2017, and just a few days later, another victim named Mohamed Mohamed, age 21, succumbed to injuries sustained in the same incident. The Columbus Police Department continued their investigation into the case, treating it as a double homicide, but no suspects have been publicly named, and the case remains unsolved to date.
