Skipper was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus Division of Fire medics at 10:02 p.m. The fatal shooting was the result of an escalating argument between Skipper and Bruce Cameron, a 49-year-old man from Dayton.
The altercation turned deadly when Cameron produced a gun and shot Skipper.
Following the incident, Cameron fled the scene, prompting Columbus police to issue a warrant for his arrest. Dayton police apprehended Cameron the next day, and he was subsequently charged with murder. The investigation revealed that Cameron shot Skipper after their argument escalated into a physical confrontation. This tragic event marked the 51st homicide in Columbus for the year 2021.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Cameron faced legal proceedings and was found guilty of murder, aggravated robbery, and having a weapon under disability. On October 6, 2023, Franklin County Judge Kim Brown sentenced Cameron to 24 years to life in prison for Skipper's death. Cameron received 18 years to life for the murder charge with a gun specification and an additional six years for the aggravated robbery charge with a gun specification. The gun specification charges added a mandatory three-year sentence to each of the underlying charges.
