On Saturday, August 1, 2009, authorities were called to the 700 block of South San Gabriel Boulevard in the city of San Gabriel, California, regarding an unresponsive infant. The infant, identified in county records simply as Baby Chen, died that day at the scene located at 789 South San Gabriel Boulevard. The child's gender and ethnicity were not specified in the initial public coroner summaries, and the baby was officially recorded at age zero, having died in the earliest days or weeks of life.

First responders and officers from the San Gabriel Police Department responded to the address, an area characterized by commercial storefronts, professional offices, and adjacent residential neighborhoods along a primary north-south boulevard in the West San Gabriel Valley. Paramedics confirmed that the infant could not be revived. The circumstances were immediately suspicious enough to bring law enforcement into the investigation, and the child's body was transferred to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner for an official autopsy.

Following the examination, coroner officials determined that the death was a homicide. However, the exact cause of death was classified in public registries under the category of "other," and specific anatomical injuries or trauma findings were withheld from public dissemination. Detectives from the San Gabriel Police Department launched an inquiry into the child's care, the identity of the legal guardians, and the sequence of events leading up to the infant's demise.

The death of Baby Chen was one of hundreds of homicides across Los Angeles County in 2009, but it remained largely overshadowed in local news reporting. Very few details about the infant's parents or caretakers were ever made public, leaving the community unaware of the tragic circumstances that occurred on that August day.

No suspects have ever been publicly named, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the homicide. The San Gabriel Police Department remains the primary investigating agency. Over fifteen years later, the death of Baby Chen stands as an open and unresolved homicide case, and authorities continue to ask anyone with information regarding the incident or the infant's caretakers to contact the San Gabriel Police Department or Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers.
