Master Officer Howard Ellsworth Dallies, Jr., aged 36, tragically lost his life on March 9, 1993, in Garden Grove, California. Officer Dallies was performing his duties as a police officer when he was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop. At approximately 2:45 a.m., he pulled over a motorcycle in the 10100 block of Aldgate Avenue. As he approached the vehicle, the driver unexpectedly turned and fired six shots at him, striking him four times.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Officer Dallies succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
The motorcycle involved in the incident was later discovered to be stolen and had false tags from a similar bike. The suspect responsible for the shooting was eventually apprehended in July 1997. However, the charges against the suspect were dropped, leaving the case unresolved. This tragic event marked a significant loss for the Garden Grove Police Department and the community, as Officer Dallies was known for his dedication and service. Before joining the Garden Grove Police Department, he had served with the Orange County Sheriff's Department and the Placentia Police Department.
