On May 6, 2014, 38-year-old Alfonso D. Beatty lost his life in the coastal city of Long Beach, California. Beatty, a Black man in the prime of his adult life, became one of dozens of homicide victims in Los Angeles County during that spring. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner investigated his death and determined the manner of death to be homicide, though specific forensic details regarding his exact injuries and the circumstances of his assault have remained largely undisclosed to the public. Following his passing, he was laid to rest at Hollywood Forever Cemetery later that month.

Long Beach, an expansive port city of nearly half a million residents situated in southern Los Angeles County, experiences a significant portion of the region's violent crime. In 2014, the city recorded more than thirty homicides, reflecting a persistent challenge for municipal authorities and community members striving to curb street violence and resolve violent offenses. While neighborhoods throughout the city saw numerous police responses to shootings and assaults that year, cases like Beatty's often unfolded without immediate public eyewitness accounts or widespread news coverage, leaving detectives to piece together events from minimal physical clues.

The investigation into the homicide was handled by detectives with the Long Beach Police Department, working in conjunction with medical examiners from Los Angeles County. Investigators typically examine forensic evidence from the scene, interview potential associates and witnesses, and review any surveillance footage in the vicinity. However, in Beatty's case, authorities never announced an identified suspect or public motive, and no arrests have been made in connection with the crime.

More than a decade after his passing, the case remains an active, open homicide investigation. Without formal charges filed or suspects publicly named, unanswered questions continue to surround the events that led to Beatty's untimely death on May 6, 2014. Law enforcement relies heavily on community cooperation in historical homicide investigations, where shifts in relationships and the passage of time frequently prompt people with vital details to finally step forward.

Detectives urge anyone with information regarding the death of Alfonso D. Beatty to contact the Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detail at 570-7244, or provide anonymous information through Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers by calling 222-TIPS.
