Dennis Seagraves, a 21-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, was fatally shot on the night of October 31, 2010. The shooting occurred near the 2300 block of Delta Avenue, a residential area in West Long Beach, adjacent to Garfield Elementary School. The Long Beach Police Department responded to a "shots fired" call around 9:40 p.m., where they found Seagraves suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.
Despite efforts by emergency responders, he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses described the suspect as an adult male who fled the scene in a vehicle, traveling eastbound on Burnett Street. Investigators from the Long Beach Police Department began looking into the incident but, at the time, no arrests were made, and the motive for the shooting remained unclear. Seagraves had grown up in the Long Beach area and attended local schools, including Cabrillo High School and Reid Continuation.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the case to come forward, but as with many homicides in the area, the case proved challenging to solve, leaving Seagraves' family and the community seeking justice.
