On a Sunday afternoon in Long Beach, California, what was meant to be a celebration of a new local business turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 20-year-old Bryan Lofton. On March 1, 2026, amidst the festivities of the grand opening of a Marathon Burger restaurant on Pine Avenue, gunfire erupted in a nearby parking structure. The Los Angeles County coroner's office would later confirm that Bryan Lofton, a Black male, died from a gunshot wound to the head.
