In the late afternoon of Saturday, August 29, 2026, the quiet of a Northeast Austin neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 5:34 p.m., police received a distressing call from the 11700 block of Timber Heights Drive, reporting a man with a gun and a person shot. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 35-year-old Tyrell Pordia, a Black male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene at 5:53 p.m. The tranquility of the suburban street had been irrevocably broken, leaving behind a scene of violence and a life tragically cut short.
Witnesses at the scene described seeing a suspect flee the area immediately following the shooting. Responding officers quickly located a man matching the suspect's description, who was later identified as 21-year-old Joitorian Bouye. Bouye, who is also a Black male, was taken into custody without incident. The subsequent investigation revealed a familial connection between the victim and the alleged shooter; Tyrell Pordia was the boyfriend of Joitorian Bouye's aunt. Neighbors reported hearing an argument between the two men about "trafficking" shortly before the fatal shots were fired. The aunt told police she was inside when she heard "popping sounds" and ran out to see her nephew holding a gun and yelling about "trafficking" before he jumped a fence and fled.
During questioning by homicide detectives, Joitorian Bouye admitted to shooting Tyrell Pordia. When asked for a reason for his actions, Bouye reportedly told investigators that Pordia gave him "bad vibes." He also claimed that he believed Pordia "wanted him dead" and mentioned that he suffered from schizophrenia. At the time of his arrest, Bouye was found in possession of a handgun and ammunition that was consistent with the casings found at the scene, which were from a rifle. Bouye was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Tyrell Pordia. The case, which marked Austin's 38th homicide of 2026, moved from a sudden act of violence to a matter for the criminal justice system. While an arrest and a confession have brought some initial clarity to the events of that tragic day, the legal process will ultimately determine the full story and the final accountability for the death of Tyrell Pordia.
