On a tragic day in early September of 2026, the life of 37-year-old Tracy Peace of Whitesville, Kentucky, was violently cut short in a harrowing series of events that began in Ohio County and ended in a fatal confrontation in Daviess County. Peace was a female. The incident, which occurred on September 2, 2026, involved an abduction, a police pursuit, and a deadly officer-involved shooting.
The ordeal began when Jonathon Severs, 30, of Owensboro, forced his way into a home in Ohio County. Inside were Tracy Peace, her mother, and three children, aged 2, 9, and 15. In an apparent act of protection, Peace's mother attempted to intervene and was shot multiple times by Severs. She was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Louisville and was reported to be in stable condition. Following the shooting, Severs abducted Tracy Peace and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Law enforcement was quickly alerted, and a pursuit ensued. The chase crossed into Daviess County, where it came to a dramatic and violent end. Severs' vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Daviess County Sheriff's Office cruiser. An exchange of gunfire followed between Severs and four deputies. In the aftermath of the shootout, both Tracy Peace and Jonathon Severs were found deceased inside Severs' vehicle. Severs was pronounced dead at the scene from gunfire.
