In a quiet home on Smith Road in Portland, Tennessee, the life of 33-year-old Miranda Whittemore, a resident of Franklin, Kentucky, came to a tragic end. On January 11, 2018, family members discovered Miranda, a White/Caucasian female, deceased inside her residence. The initial investigation by the Portland Police Department quickly indicated that her death was a homicide, sparking a search for the person responsible.

Authorities soon identified a primary suspect: 39-year-old Jason D. Whittemore. Believed to have been in a domestic relationship with Miranda, a warrant for his arrest on the charge of first-degree murder was issued. Law enforcement considered him to be armed and dangerous, and a public alert was issued, noting he was likely driving a white 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck with Tennessee license plates. The search for Jason Whittemore soon crossed state lines into Allen County, Kentucky.

The day after Miranda's body was found, on January 12, 2018, the manhunt for Jason Whittemore reached its conclusion. The Allen County Sheriff's Office, along with the Kentucky State Police, received reports of a man matching his description attempting to enter several homes in the area. When law enforcement located him, Jason Whittemore brandished a weapon. In the ensuing confrontation, deputies fired at him, resulting in his death.

The investigation into Miranda Whittemore's murder and the subsequent death of the sole suspect, Jason D. Whittemore, involved law enforcement agencies from both Tennessee and Kentucky. The tragic series of events left a lasting impact on the local communities, concluding a harrowing chapter that began with the loss of a young woman and ended with the death of her suspected killer.
